Summary:

Vayak'hel means "and he gathered".  This Torah portion details how the Israelites participated in constructing the Tabernacle, tying in well with previous Torah portions where God gives the instructions to Moses.

Summary:

Ki Tisa in Hebrew means "when you take". It involves taking a census of the people in Israel, then completing the commands about the construction of the Tabernacle. The tragic story of the golden calf can also be found in this Torah portion.

Summary:

Tetzaveh means "you shall command". It is all about the construction of the tabernacle, the lights that need to be lit continually, and the Aaronic priesthood that serves in the tabernacle while Israel is in the wilderness.

Summary:

This week's Torah portion is Mishpatim, Hebrew for "judgements". God is entering into covenant with the people of Israel and teaching them how to deal with one another, honoring one another as fellow servants in the family of the Lord.

God also sends a messenger ahead of his people to guard the people to get them into the holy land.

Summary:

We begin reading the scroll of Exodus starting with the portion Shemot, Hebrew for "the names of". It is slam-packed with stories you're familiar with:

1. Moses being sent down the river to be raised in pharaoh's house

2. Moses' killing of an Egyptian and fleeing to Midian

3. Moses' first encounter with the God of Israel

4. The promise that God would deliver his people from Egypt.

Torah Portion: Vayechi

Summary:

This week's Torah portion is Vayechi, Hebrew for "and he lived". This is the last portion from the scroll of Genesis. Jacob provides each of his sons with a blessing with future significance. At the end of the portion, both Jacob and Joseph die, which sets the stage for Israel's eventual rescue from Egypt when a pharaoh arises that "doesn't know Joseph"
